Fishing For Snapper Bluefish

Fly fishing for bluefish is an awesome experience. It is something that most people have not heard of let alone done. The word "bluefish" regularly conjures up thoughts of the large chopper-like 15 pound blues that are commonly caught out in the oceans in deep waters. Although the larger chopper blues are the good known kind of bluefish that people fish for, there is lots of fun to be had fly fishing for their smaller cousins - the snapper bluefish.

Fly fishing for the smaller 2 and 3 pound blues is regularly done in back bays and this recipe of snapper blue fishing can be a very rewarding experience. Much like their larger relatives, snapper bluefish wage quite a fight for their size. Pound for pound, I'm not sure it gets any good than hooking up with a 3 pound snapper blue fish on an ultra-light spinning rod or, good yet, a real good fly rod.

Fluke

I regularly hunt the back bays of New Jersey for these minuscule monsters and things get real fun when I find them. Catching twenty to thirty snapper bluefish is not out of the lowly on a good day. While most people are out on the bay chasing fluke and weakfish, I spend my time chasing schools of snapper bluefish colse to the bay. If I am lucky enough to find a school, the activity is more than enough to keep me busy for hours at a time.

If you have never fished for snapper bluefish with ultra-light tackle or with fly-fishing equipment, you are missing out on a marvelous experience!
