Is Miles successful at looking out what is going on in the agency?
Although this novel is not quite up to par when compared to some of the Inspector Rebus novels, it is still a good read. Most of all, you can see clues that this author was on his way up the ladder to that of "bestselling author" one day. I feel the main thing this book lacked is the character improvement that has blossomed in Rankin's later novels. Ian Rankin fans will still enjoy this book because it has all the excitement and intrigue of your normal spy novel. If you like spy novels that are intriguing, be sure to add "Watchman" to your reading list. You can then correlate it to the Ian Rankin novels of today.
